Health Services

Onalaska is strategically centered within a network of local and regional hospitals and health maintenance organizations within the greater La Crosse area. Gundersen Lutheran Hospital/Clinic, located just 4 miles south of Onalaska, is an accredited complete care medical center facility with a 500 bed capacity. Also in La Crosse is Franciscan Skemp Healthcare which provides emergency and outpatient services and is affiliated with Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Both clinics have branches in Onalaska.

Cultural

Viterbo College, in nearby La Crosse, offers a variety of cultural activities through its prestigious performing arts center, including concerts, ballet, stage plays, and guest lectures to which the public is welcome. The La Crosse Symphony Orchestra provides six double concerts each year with an outstanding professional orchestra under the direction of celebrated Conductor Amy Mills.

Sports & Recreation

The YMCA and Valley View Fitness offer area indoor fitness and sports recreation. The City of Onalaska offers opportunities for sports participation for all age groups through the Recreation Department.

Golf Courses
La Crosse Country Club, 300 Marcou Rd, 783-6515. Private 18-hole golf course. Golf lessons, five tennis courts, two swimming pools, pro shop, restaurant, bar and lounge.

Water Sports
Onalaska, "Sunfish Capital of the World", is adjacent to Lake Onalaska, a boating and fishing haven. A five-minute drive on I-90 will take one to the Mississippi River for summer and winter recreation.

Bike Trails
Onalaska is fortunate to have access to two recreational bike trails. Each trail has its own special attraction. The La Crosse River Trail has a five-mile prairie preserve and the La Crosse River Marsh, while the Great River Trail has the magnificence of the Mississippi River and its palisades.

Winter Sports
The La Crosse River State Trail and surrounding trails are well marked and maintained by local snowmobile clubs. Mount La Crosse on the south side of La Crosse provides the area with cross country and downhill skiing during the winter months.

Located 5 minutes from Fairway Creek is the La Crosse Municipal Airport where service is provided by Northwest Airlines, American Eagle and Midwest Air-Link to Minneapolis or Chicago. This local airport also offers charter services, flight training, and hangars for private airplanes. The Minneapolis International Airport is located 20 minutes (flight time) from La Crosse. Flight time to Chicago is 40 minutes.
